The Team Behind The Dream

“Boots on the ground, head in the stars.”

While we use those words as our brand mantra, they also describe who we are.

We're Ryan Rebo and Kelly Rathbone, the husband-and-wife team behind Alien Cowboy Club (that's us on the right in the photo above). We're both lifelong artists in different forms. Kelly is a figurative sculptor and teacher, and I (Ryan) have spent my career balancing software engineering by day with music and songwriting by night, most recently through my band, Ty Walker and The Humanoids—an alien/cowboy-themed project that, believe it or not, came before the clothing.

In fact, that's where the name Alien Cowboy Club came from. I had made some merchandise for a tour with tags that read "Alien Cowboy Club." When we eventually started this brand together and needed a name, we kept coming back to it. Nothing else felt as true, so it stayed.

Today we live in Bali, Indonesia with our three children and what has slowly become a small petting zoo. How we ended up here is a story for another time, but living in Bali opened our eyes to an incredible community of skilled makers and artisans. We realized we could build clothing the way we always wished it was made: thoughtfully, ethically, and by hand whenever possible.

We're drawn to what we like to call high-frequency fabrics—hemp, linen, organic cotton, and other natural fibers. We love plant dyes, handwoven textiles, found materials, and pieces that feel like they've already lived a few stories. Our aesthetic leans vintage, sometimes with a touch of the American West, always with an eye toward timelessness rather than trends.

We're intentionally slow. Some of our tags even say "Very Slow Fashion." It's half a joke, half a mission statement.

For us, slow fashion means making less, but making it better. It means obsessing over the smallest details, working with partners who are paid fairly and never rushed, creating only what feels worth creating, and leaving enough room in our lives for family, music, sculpture, and the other creative pursuits that inspire everything we do.

At the end of the day, we're artists first. We want every piece we make to feel like a wearable work of art—something that sparks curiosity, feels incredible to wear, stands the test of time, and helps bring a little more of your true self to the surface.
